He’s a living legend. If you think he leans back and relies on his old successes: far missed. He is still on the move, making new projects with new and interesting musicians and looking for new ways in recording technology. For this CD he has booked well-known Europeans as instrumentalists who live and work here in Europe. In this way he can tour and act more easily in Europe without the eternal transatlantic flights. “These fellow musicians are first class on their instruments and internationally known with their own bands and projects” he adds. Together they are a unit and Mr. Freeman shines over this swinging and groovy foundation. The repertoire consists mainly of original compositions by Chico and a few pieces by the other musicians. The CD is topped off with some interesting versions of standards like “Seven Steps to Heaven” or “Soft Pedal Blues”. The bandleader also presents a cycle of pieces dedicated to his daughters and inspired by them: Erika, Luani, N’tiana, Nia and Lara! These very special pieces, as well as the rest of the album, have been conceived and played with great care.
