Happy Release Day Caspar van Meel! New single “Gnossiene No. 1” and new album “Satie – A time Remembered” in December!
Happy Release Day Caspar Van Meel! The first single “Gnossiene No. 1” from the new album “Satie – A time Remembered”, which will be released on 8 December on o-tone music / Edel Kultur, is now available!
Together with Ryan Carniaux (trumpet), Denis Gäbel (tenor saxophone), Raphael Klemm (trombone), Franz von Chossy (piano) and Niklas Walter (drums), bassist Caspar van Meel interprets the music of impressionist composer Erik Satie in his own very personal way. “Gnossiene No. 1” is the first of four Gnossiennes – a series of piano pieces that Satie wrote at the end of the 19th century. The melodies and harmonies in these works are deceptively simple and almost romantic. They cling to the classical tradition, but break out through the use of innovative scales. “Although many jazz musicians were influenced by impressionist composers like Satie, the scales that Satie used are still not widely used,” says van Meel.
