The newly formed trio with saxophonist Matthieu Bordenave, Giovanni Guidi on piano and Emanuele Maniscalco on drums will undoubtedly cast a spell over its listeners. The three artists, who record for the ECM label, explore the art of trio playing in their very own way, always in search of a coherent unity in musical diversity.
Matthieu Bordenave’s “beguiling saxophone sound” (Deutschlandfunk) and melodic sensitivity find the ideal ally in Giovanni Guidi, a pianist praised by Enrico Rava for his “boundless curiosity” and “unyielding refinement”. Emanuele Maniscalco’s complex yet finely shaded drumming – which he perfected through many years of collaboration with renowned jazz musicians such as Stefano Bollani – lends the ensemble a further dimension of dynamic intensity.
From ballads that shimmer with inner tension to energetic, avant-garde pieces – the musical spectrum reflects the openness of the three musicians as well as their unconditional will to be creatively daring.
