Happy Release Day for Swiss jazz drummer Joris Dudli!
Today he releases his new album “Boundaries Expanded” with an absolute all-star line-up.
In 2016, the celebrated jazz musician released the album “A Rewarding Journey”, which he recorded with musicians such as Jeremy Pelt, Anthony Wonsey and special guest Benny Golson. This time, “Boundaries Expanded” features even more internationally recognized jazz greats that Dudli got to know during his years in New York between 1986 and 1999.
The connection to the New York jazz elite around Eric Alexander, Mike LeDonne, Peter Washington, Joe Farnsworth and Wallace Roney Jr. has not existed for quite as long as that to Vincent Herring, Peter Bernstein, Dave Kikoski, Gregor Storf and Essiet Essiet, but Dudli has shared the stage with almost all of them on several occasions.
With “Boundaries Expanded”, Dudli shows that he has extremely expanded his boundaries as an artist. After more than four decades of a successful career as a jazz drummer, suddenly stepping forward and singing is certainly a leap out of his comfort zone and into ice-cold water! And although the booklet describes in detail how an album with vocals came about, the quote from Phil Collins probably sums it up: “I’m not a singer who plays a little bit of drums, I’m a drummer who sings a little bit.”
Joris can be seen live throughout Europe in 2024 with the Ralph Moore Quartet and the Soul Chemistry ensemble.
